Score is excellent; rest of the movie not as awful as it could've been, but not nearly as good as it might've. Owes a lot to Carpenter's The Thing, less so to Mandy, tho the influence is there. Fun enough if you set the expectations at a lowish bar. Reasonably good performances, the script & pacing lack punch, very well shot with some solid effects work.

With the exception of nice cinematography sprinkled here and there and a decent performance by Cage and Dern, this movie is a disaster. The script is downright amateurish. The storyline is chopped up, which allows the movie to become a total mess without the slightest bit of cohesiveness. This overrated garbage. Don't waste your money on this movie. If you read this comment and still rent the movie, come back when finished. Movie over? You regretted it, huh? I tried to warn you.

The performances range from good to great. The effects as well. The writing, however, is a bit of a disaster. Events (not the MAIN event, which is fairly simple) happen basically in order to force certain character turns even though they make no sense. Cage does his Jack Torrance by way of what I'm pretty sure is a Donald Trump impression (and if so - hilarious) but Jack Torrance had a whole Kubrick movie for his arc, so a LOT of this is forced and ... kinda nonsensical. Not bad, but not great.
