About this movie

A riveting thriller, Cell 211 was a smash hit in Spain where it won eight Goya Awards (the Spanish Oscars) including the top categories of best film, director, actor and screenplay.

During a tour of a prison, newly appointed warden Juan gets caught on the inside when a riot breaks out and prisoners seize control. His only means of survival is to pose as a new inmate and gain the trust of ferocious ringleader Malamadre. The two form an unwitting bond but as the situation becomes more critical, their options grow more limited.

Each man takes on opposing sides of hope; one has everything to live for while the other faces life behind bars. Trapped between callous officials and bloodthirsty prisoners, Juan finds his former identity crumbling as the standoff moves toward an enthralling showdown.

Cell 211 unfolds convincingly, but unpredictably, with a suffocating tension. This taut thriller shows a man in the agonising process of assessing his values. This is genre filmmaking at its best - wildly inventive, entertaining, gritty and politically provocative. 2009 VACA FILMS STUDIO S1 -- MORENA FILMS S1 - TELECINCO CINEMA - LA FABRIQUE 2
