About this movie

Based on the bestselling book series, DreamWorks Animation presents the long-awaited global movie event, Captain Underpants. This outrageous family comedy tells the story of two overly imaginative pranksters, George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch), who hypnotize their principal (Ed Helms) into thinking he’s an enthusiastic, yet dimwitted, superhero named Captain Underpants.

This movie depicts my childhood perception of Captain Underpants. Its exactly how I thought him, George, and Harold would all sound and move when I first got my hands on a copy of Dave Plickley's masterpiece; "Insert book title here" oh by the way... Watch this film, RIGHT NOW! You can thank me later.

Okay, this movie is obviously not for everyone. It is not deep, high-brow art. But it is well-crafted and subversively funny. I took my kindergartner to see it more for his sake than for mine. I figured I'd just zone out for most of the movie. Surprisingly, though, I found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would. My kid enjoyed it, too. So that's certainly a bonus. I'd give it three stars. He'd give it five. So we'll split the difference since he's too young to write his own review, and we'll give it a combined four-star review.

A triumph of modern storytelling, Captain Underpants tells the tale of two young entrepreneurs who force a middle-class American into slavery;' this involves doing degrading hero work in what is essentially a publicity stunt to increase the readership of their comic book series. Though filled with amusing hijinks, the real triumph here is timeliness as we pass into an era where our corporate overlords have finally dropped all pretense and taken direct control of the presidency.
