About this movie

Based on the bestselling book series, DreamWorks Animation presents the long-awaited global movie event, Captain Underpants. This outrageous family comedy tells the story of two overly imaginative pranksters, George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch), who hypnotize their principal (Ed Helms) into thinking he’s an enthusiastic, yet dimwitted, superhero named Captain Underpants.

Okay, this movie is obviously not for everyone. It is not deep, high-brow art. But it is well-crafted and subversively funny. I took my kindergartner to see it more for his sake than for mine. I figured I'd just zone out for most of the movie. Surprisingly, though, I found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would. My kid enjoyed it, too. So that's certainly a bonus. I'd give it three stars. He'd give it five. So we'll split the difference since he's too young to write his own review, and we'll give it a combined four-star review.

Captain Underpants surpassed my expectations in every way. I was prepared to dislike this movie because their last movie was Boss Baby and well... it just surpassed my expectations. George and Harold feel like real kids and you can feel the longtime friendship they have, and surprisingly their happy/sad moments warmed my heart. The comedy is almost always a laugh out loud moment. The animation is also very wacky and smooth at the same time I can tell whoever worked on the art had some experience with cartoons. With all that said I gibe Captain Underpants a 8.5/10 stars I am happy with this movie especially as a fan of the books.
