California Split

I've waited years to see this and wasn't disappointed. The characteristic haphazard incidents, overlapping dialogue, and lack of storyline is what we've come to expect. With his artist's brush, Altman presents a tableau of the world of gambling which is sometimes dangerous, sometimes even boring, but still kind of fun. Gould never stops talking, and Segal is a tad morose until the final section when he finally gets that winning streak. It's all just American business: money and whether you're a winner or a loser. A good entry in Altman's oeuvre, both for those unfamiliar with his work and the hard core fan. Enjoy!
