About this movie

Rami Malek (Emmy-nominee, MR. ROBOT) stars in BUSTER'S MAL HEART as Jonah, a troubled man on the run from fate. Malek exposes the depths of Jonah's soul in this smart thriller, peppered with dark humor and laden with interlocking mystery. From the bold cinematic mind of Sarah Adina Smith (THE MIDNIGHT SWIM, winner of the AFI Fest Breakthrough Audience Award), BUSTER'S MAL HEART is a visceral mind bender that will provoke discussion long after it turns your world upside down.

This movie was designed to get high ratings, packed with abbreviated, knock off versions of the highly acclaimed works of actual story tellers. That in and of itself is genius, don't get me wrong... Being able to use subliminal references that smug psuedo intellectual snobs feel special for being able to identify in order to procure their praise without ever actually telling a story is a billion dollar skill. Unfortunately it's not the type of skill that would result in the making of a movie worth watching. Most people, who are either smart enough to know that they have already been told the same stories (except with an actual conclusion) or are only smart enough to know that the story had no actual plot will probably not enjoy it. As messed up as it may seem I'm giving 4 stars purely for the fact that I'm almost positive that this movie was designed to get ratings. In that respect it was a true work of art and I tip my hat to those responsible, kudos.

I liked Buster! It was fresh and exciting comedic film that held my interest! If you didn't get this movie you should stick to your boring Hollywood blockbuster movies which plots are all the same. Hero battles Villian, and girl grows to love hero. Hero struggles and girl thinks she loses him to the actions of the Villian but he miraculously comes back from the dead to defeat the bad Villian. The girl is overjoyed and cries as the hero approaches her with a giant kiss! The theater goes wild because that was so orginally stupid!

BMH is the best film of 2017 so far and plays like a nice Donnie Darko / Fight Club smoothie. Malek's performance is captivating, the shooting is expressive and memorable, the sound design is immersive, and the plot is impenetrably mysterious. This movie has endless space for speculation, imagination, and revisitation. Truly a rewarding experience for the intrepid viewer.
