About this movie

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.

People were entirely too critical of this alternate outlook of our beloved superhero. It is not the "Man of Steel" people. The movie has a recognizable cast, the acting was on par, but it does show its lack of budgeting from time to time. Where some of our other superhero films that we have become accustomed to, have phenomenal budgets; this movie absolutely did well for what it had to work with. I will say that there seemed to be quite a bit spent on some of the gore, that would have been better suited in some better CGI for our twisted boy of steel. But overall I would say its well worth the watch, and I would hope that it gains some traction and some budget backing for the next installment. The only reason I feel that the plot line was forced, is because of the many Superman related TV shows and movies through the years, that have filled in a lot of the gaps, without them needing to be stated time and again. Each movie bringing a bit of a different twist, but the same story all the same. This is the only one of its kind at this point, this is the start of its potential history. 5 stars for originality and concept, 4 stars for the lack of budget and a somewhat forced plot-line.

The trailer gave me high hopes for this movie. Unfortunately the idea of a evil superman was wasted on a low budget, poorly put together story. Too much time was spent trying to give the movie a dark atmosphere, that it felt like they edited out any strong story development. Not sure if that was done during the writing phase or in the editing room. The actors all did a good job, the special effects were fairly seamless, but it just kind of falls flat. It was not the worst movie I've ever seen, and if you go in not expecting too much, it might be fun to watch with a group of friends who like watching B grade horror movies.

This movie frustrates me because it could have been amazing. Everything after the first act feels like a series of disjointed short films. After the first act the story takes a nosedive and becomes the same scenario played over and over again. There could have been a really cool villain origin story here, but instead it turns into a sorta-kinda horror movie. The only problem I have is with the writing and the story. If you don't much care about the characters, and just wanna kill 90 minutes with some fairly interesting, if not repetitive action, its a solid choice.
