I would have given this film a higher rating but when he got to Berlin there were large sections in German which were not subtitle. It's just not on to do films in more than one language and not translate the second language. If I didn't need to understand what was being said you could just have them mouth the words in English to and not provide a soundtrack at all. Then I could just guess at what the actors are saying. I despise this kind of nonsense. Don't write lines, have them said in a foreign language and then expect your audience to appreciate that.

Not bond, borne or le carrier' so dont expect that type of film. Hanks is great, humerous where appropriate, but a serious, believable character. It goes beyond the espionage to the politics and humanity of the world in the fear filled early 1960s, but from a very personal perspective. Great supporting cast also that engages the viewer. A true story well told!

Well acted and shot. That's it. This film is full of taps on the back and smug one liners that these (admittedly) great actors reel off almost chortling to themselves on screen. Mark Rylance is good but hardly in it and so not really deserving the best supporting actor gong but that's almost unfair to say seeing as it's not hos fault he got it...the "would it help?" line he said about 10 times wasn't funny the first time. Would have been better to see more of him and more layers to the character.
