About this movie

In the late 13th century, William Wallace (Mel Gibson) returns to Scotland after living away from his homeland for many years. The king of Scotland has died without an heir and the king of England, a ruthless pagan known as Edward the Longshanks, has seized the throne. Wallace becomes the leader of a ramshackle yet courageous army determined to vanquish the greater English forces. Wallace's courage and passion unite his people in BRAVEHEART. Mel Gibson directs, produces and stars in a film combining action, intrigue and romance to tell the story of the legendary Scottish knight, Sir William Wallace, and the love that inspired him to fight for his country's freedom.

Good movie, let down by several issues. The first is that although it's great to see some nice coats of plate armor, it may as well be made out of paper for all the good it does. Second, it's largely based on fiction, which isn't bad in it's self (a lot isn't known about him outside his military command), but is a dangerous thing when mixed with history and depicted as fact, especially when you completely change the details of his biggest victory against the British. Finally, it's disrespectful to portray historical characters as Hollywood "bad guys", just to make the "good guy" seem like he had no faults and is fighting evil. As long as it's accepted as fiction, it's a great movie classic, which I regret putting off watching for so long.

This movie is amazing but the legend of William Wallace is really sad😩 But it's sad that he does all that fighting and losing his wife to then end up going into hiding for 7 yrs and eventually end up getting killed!😩 BUT I CANT BELIEVE HE HAD IT OFF WITH THE FRENCH KINGS DAUGHTER!!!! EWWWW!

Google need to be having a rethink about their prices, eight pound for a film you can own on dvd for a couple of pounds these days, TOTAL RIP OFF!! Being Scottish this film got the blood boiling regardless of historical accuracy, the film was entertaining and well played.
