I love the scenes with Mia. first where she becomes a great swimmer in saving Gianna from drown and finds out she has gills on this side of her chest. Second, where she starts eating fish (raw and alive) out of fish tank and one in a biology class.Third, where her legs turn dark grayish and fuss together until it is a mermaid. Fourth, how she is (after her mermaid transformation) as she whip her tail, craws her way to the bathtub, relaxes in the bathtub, and then sleeps on the floor as it's flooded. Finally, where she's on the ocean beach (with her mermaid tail) socializing hugging Gianna, then crawling into the ocean, and then swimming in the ocean.

Not your typical coming of age story. Reminds me of Ginger Snaps and Raw in the similarly dark nature of the transformation of the main character. Despite the extra ordinary nature of the main character, her self destructive behaviors and choices create an authentic character.
