About this movie

Set within the world of global cybercrime, BLACKHAT follows furloughed convict Nicholas Hathaway (Chris Hemsworth), and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta. As Hathaway closes in, the stakes become personal as he discovers that the attack on a Chinese nuclear power plant was just the beginning. Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) directs the propulsive action-thriller. (Original Title - Blackhat) - 2015 Universal Studios. All Rights Reserved.

Truly awful. No character development. Paper thin plot that you may have seen about a hundred times in movies like Swordfish and Mad Max. Tremendous factual inconsistencies (guy picked up from prison in Pennsylvania, magically gets on a plane at LAX). Obvious voiceovers to cover lousy editing. At one point, they even had a Red Shirt killed, just like on Star Trek (this is when a nameless character is introduced just so someone can die, in this case among shipyard containers). Incorrect radiation decontamination procedures, anticlimactic explosions, mythically slow plot with underwhelming twists that are really just slight bends, and kitsch codenames like "ghostman" and "black widow."

This is a good movie but i expected a great film... The expectation leading up to the release of this movie almost a year ago had me intrigued. When I finally saw it a couple months when the web streams were released I was let down. A good story with a good star but the chemistry and direction ruined a great script. Chris Hemsworth is a great actor. The only movie he was bad in was his first state-side role Ca$h. Every other movie he's done was great. With the exception of this one. Maybe it was him but i doubt it.

Although the premise was simple enough, the movie never gets it going in any satisfying way. Its propensity to explain too much, combined with a sluggish pacing (at least 35 minutes that could have been cut) makes Black hat one of the weaker film in the director's filmography. While not as bad as Public Enemy, it came close enough at times. As a Mann fan, let me say that this is not in any way shape or form as good as Heat. Skip this one.
