This movie doesn't make any sense! And I don't mean from the historical standpoint. I mean from the editing, acting and the overall plot. The beginning makes no sense, the middle makes no sense, the ending makes no sense!!! Things characters do don't make any sense!!! But on top of all that, the potholes in this movie are so massive they're pretty much a black hole of schlocky filmmaking!!!

The movie isn't perfect, but unfortunately I haven't come across another movie that more accurately shows the atrocities committed by USSR government from a personal perspective, so I think this movie deserves 5 stars for attempting to balance personal story telling, history, and appeal to people who aren't familiar. Unfortunately a lot of people outside of the former USS controlled countries don't know slight bit about the extremely dark history of the USSR so it would be difficult to appeal to them with a more accurately dramatic movie, and honestly I see it being very difficult to get the history out in a way that outside audiences could relate to and understand. I think that the people who left negative reviews don't really appreciate how hard it really is to convey the bitter history, so I do think the movie deserves 5 stars for taking the initiative in a different way.
