About this movie

Spunky and rebellious, Becky (Lulu Wilson) is brought to a weekend getaway at a lake house by her father Jeff (Joel McHale) in an effort to try to reconnect after her mother’s death. The trip immediately takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James), suddenly invade the lake house.

(SPOILERS!) For any faults this movie may have, it is a fair representation of the anger that can (but not always) come from the loss of a loved one. Lulu Wilson is exceptional at portraying that "To hell with everyone" mentality that can come from such a traumatic event, even if it is represented in such an extreme scenario. Further notes: Kevin James is by turns menacing and pathetic, but without more scenes or dialogue is playing a secondary character. Would have loved more from him, if only to see if he has actual staying power as a villain or if his portrayal of a merciless killer would fall flat. Not enough meat on those bones to judge the cook. Joel Mchale did a passable performance as a father not knowing how to connect to his child, but did not seem to be a widower with...regrets? Mourning? Could have used more establishing of his character, but as it stands is a one dimensional "Father can't relate to his kid" rather than a fully fledged character reconciling his love of a lost one with his love of a new person. He just kind of "Them's the breaks" (a la Bogart) the scenario of his love life, but that may be more a fault of script than actor. Overall, this was a fun thriller with the twist that the traditional "Last Girl" was the main killer, someone to root for rather than dread, and is worth the watch. P.S. Why didn't Becky pick up the gun from camo-guy? From a film perspective it would've ruined the Home Alone vibe, but, rationally would've been the first move after killing that dude.

Wow. Seems like a lot of people "reviewing" this film don't really seem to understand that movies aren't usually reality. Maybe a woman couldnt beat up a guy like this in real life. But this is a movie. Your lack of being able to differentiate fantasy and reality is truly frightening. Seek help.
