It was a movie that was needed especially in the beginning of the Pacific Campaign. Everyone should research what happen to the soldiers that were prisoners of the Japanese. The brutality and inhumanity was horrible and often glossed over in history classes. Unfortunately the political aspects of the military and civilian government left the soldiers and Filipino people to suffer that brutality of the Japanese Army. The filming of this movie was very good and the purpose was to encourage the American public. It may be proven that the war was calculated but the people that fought and their families believed and that is what counts. Let's hope we have learned but based on the past decade it seem a lesson soon forgotten.

This is an older film starring the late Robert Taylor as an army sergeant trying to get his squad and a few extra tag a longs out of the way of the approaching japanese but he convinced the men in his little unit that they need to stand their ground to buy the large numbers of civilians and non combatants a chance to escape. There is a gritty realism that is surprising for a movie filmed this early in the war. It's got a great cast of veteran actors. Definitely a classic
