About this movie

From BAFTA Award-winning director Asif Kapadia (SENNA), AMY tells the incredible story of six-time Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse – in her own words. Featuring extensive unseen archival footage and previously unheard tracks, this strikingly modern, moving and vital film shines a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few can. A once-in-a-generation talent, Amy Winehouse was a musician that captured the world’s attention. A pure jazz artist in the most authentic sense – she wrote and sung from the heart using her musical gifts to analyze her own problems. The combination of her raw honesty and virtuosity resulted in some of the most unique and adored songs of the modern era. But her massive success resulted in relentless and invasive media attention, which coupled with Amy’s troubled relationships and precarious lifestyle, saw her life tragically begin to unravel, resulting in her untimely death in July 2011 at the age of 27.

I couldn't stand this Documentary. About a third into it I was so depressed with the train wreck of a life Amy Winehouse had that her great musical talent meant nothing to me. I already knew a lot about her and had read the book her father wrote. I knew about the scumbag boyfriend (ex-husband) and the alcohol/drugs/eating disorder. It wasn't just fame that destroyed her. It was EVERYTHING. I am just not sure what we were supposed to get out of this Documentary. Again I just found it all so disturbing. The truth is that Amy had problems starting in childhood. Obviously some serious mental health issues from early on. I just found it so hard to focus on her singing abilities with all this other crap going on. I would have preferred more singing and less drama. Hope this helps others. There is no question that extreme fame is almost impossible to live with. Just ask Michael Jackson. Oh you can't -- he's dead also. I will say that the British press (reporters, paparazzi, etc.) are detestable. Worst than the American press. We should already be learning the lesson that the media can literally destroy celebrities' reputations and lives.

This is a good documentary from actual video footage of Amy Winehouse throughout the years. There are no actors portraying her which I personally liked. It is worth a watch if you have ever appreciated Amy's talents. It dives a bit deeper into her life with personal demons with addictions and mental issues. I hate hearing people say she was just a glorified drug/alcohol addict. It goes deeper. The fame was just too much for that poor girl. It is sad!

Would not stream on TV apps, or from google phone to TV. Was laggy when on YouTube on computer and plugged to TV. Ended up having to buy on Amazon, worked in HD immediately with no lag. Wish I could "return" this purchase.
