About this movie

Disney's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he's not alone when his mom (Jennifer Garner), dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn't had one.

The movie was funny and entertaining for all ages in a non sophisticated approach to get laughs. However I brought my 6 year old to watch it and I felt uncomfortable with some of the scenes. In particular, the one where Alexander's sister takes too much cough syrup and performs a musical in a sedated state of mind. Along with the scene where the word "penis" was used several times in 1 scene. I felt Disney went beyond their boundaries and wanted to test the waters and attempt to reach a broader demographic

I took my younger siblings and cousins out to see this, expecting a funny and family friendly film. This film was lacking in comedy, and they relied on crude humor and poor acting to move the story along. I did not enjoy that they played off getting high on medicine as funny, that they hadbinnapropriate dancing and drinking, or that they had a scene that almost turned into something more rated R than PG . Save your money and skip this waste of time.

It was a cute movie with a couple of good jokes. But I was very disappointed with Disney. My friend and I laughed at the Paddington trailer more. Go show your kids big hero 6 or penguins of Madagascar instead. By the way I think the reason why everyone looks so upset on the poster is because they know how bad the movie is. 4 out of 10
