About this movie

Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is well on the way to rebuilding after World War III. The central characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, two high school drop-outs, are members of a joy-riding motorcycle gang. In the opening scene, Kaneda and Tetsuo stumble upon a secret government project to develop telekinetic humans, apparently for use as weapons. Akira is a masterpiece, without a doubt. This movie is still as good now as when I first saw it fifteen or so years ago (10 years since last seen). The voice acting is a minor gripe of both dub versions I have seen, but it is still a compelling and visually stunning animation. This was probably the first movie to seriously bring Jap anime to my attention.

An amazing accomplishment at its time, Akira may not be for everyone but the level of detail and storyline have influenced some of today's most talented directors. This is the first Anime I ever watched and I return to it at least once a year. Watch this film, if only to open your mind.

the original CyberPunk experience agree that the original English dub Is better for me however the new dub explains a bit more of the story then the old dub. my brother has read the entire manga series and reckons it's got even more twists and turns than the what he calls shortend story 2 hour movie. love it.
