Some of the comments that are directed towards this movie is a little suspicious and I would take precaution in understanding a trivial person's mind on what this movie signifies to them. Now onto the review of the movie. This movie in essential terms is about a taxi driver with some minor forms of debt who is in need of a thousand dollars and luck has come to him that a foreigner comes to Korea and he is willing to pay a huge price to go to Gwangju. Many scenes occur and eventually, the movie is shifted forwards to the present where we see a video of the Korean taxi driver reading a newspaper of the now elderly foreigner who comes to Gwangju to receive an award for filming the political massacre. If you want to understand the politics of this particular film, I strongly encourage uses to read up upon contemporary South Korean politics from the early 1950s to the present. I feel that this movie gives an good insight to see how the South Korean political system was essentially formed and unfortunately mutated during the 1970s as huge catastrophe of dictator and militarism government essentially terrorizes and tries to cover its tracks by not showing the world on what it's up to. It is a very insightful film on understanding what made South Korea, how this still affects the country to this very day. Whoever this taxi person was is a hero for helping the man record his videos and taking him around Gwangju.

I've seen this on hulu and it is a really great movie. I'm sorry what happen in 1980 about that dictator, if only our government got invovled but they were to busy handling the Cold War,drug wars,Soviet/Afghan War,Contras, spyrings in the US and Europe and whatever else is there.

corrupt dictator Chun doo hwan killed hundreds of people and said they were from N. Korea.. he's one of the worst humans ever. it's fkd up that the far-right in Korea still support him and his terrible fascist party. it's just sad.
