A Most Violent Year is a thriller set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history. I like the cinematography, lighting and tone of the film, but i wanted more action. The film feels like a 10 year old boy who wants to be like his big cousin The Godfather. It definitely an indie film.

Should be renamed as "A Most Boring Two Hours." It crawls along at a snail's pace, has wafer-thin characters and plot, and is, well, not at all violent. Only thing that stops it receiving a one-star is Oscar Isaac's performance.

Whike it's very well shot and acted, this film moves at a glacial pace. Also the title and trailers were misleading, its not all that violent and it doesn't take place over a year.
