About this movie

Stepping from the pages of Fredrik Backman’s international best-selling novel, Ove is the quintessential grumpy old man next door, with strictly enforced principles and a short fuse. Still grieving his late wife, Ove has largely given up on life until a boisterous young family moves in next door and forces him out of his shell in this heartwarming tale that reminds us that life is sweeter when it's shared.

Of course no movie can do proper justice to a beautifully written novel. So long as you have those realistic expectations after having read the novel, then I believe you will really enjoy this well done screenplay adaptation and film. The cast and acting is excellent. To call it a comedy would be a mis-characterization. It is a love story. But to truly understand, please read this, for the ages, novel. The reading experience, with all the important details impossible to fit on film, makes the movie even that much more enjoyable. Excellent film, better book! Thank you, Backman.

An absolutely essential film that is a very good adaptation of an even better book. Before you watch this read the book, or, if you are one of those 'idiots' read it after the film and watch it again. A Man Called Ove is one of the great novels of our time. The characters are compelling, though they are made more complete by the understanding the book brings, the style, costume, script, directing, camera work, and sound track take this film to a high level. Enjoy yourself, laugh and cry while watching, because this is absolutely beautifully done.

Movies like this don't often come along. It's witty, slow in pace, and often dry in humor, but it is so full of humanity that you'll find yourself empathizing with the characters that are presented so well. As a young man I saw a lot I could relate to in the story of Ove.
