I watched this movie because I like Viggo Mortensen and the way he approaches a role. He does not let the audience down in the slightest playing this with a subtle but deft touch. Maria Bello is superb as his wife. The sex scenes are quite graphic but reflect more accurately than most movies what real adults do. Two very different scenes in accord with the very different states the family finds itself in. There is a touch of the Tarantino in this with the violence but much less gratuitous and much more shocking emotionally. The entire cast is fantastic including the minor characters. I particularly enjoyed Ashton Holmes' performance as the son. Four and a half star effort.
