About this movie

From visionary writer-director Terrence Malick comes this story based on real events, about an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. Although the Austrian farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, his unwavering beliefs and his love for his wife Fani and their three children keep his spirit alive.

Cinematography was amazing along with the setting. Superb acting, yet sound could have been better, for it was difficult at times to hear or understand their words. I also wished they had captioned all German in English subtitles. Otherwise, it was dramatic and keeps one interest long enough to anticipate the end results. This movie should be shared freely on every main TV station throughout the world, so we never forget... It was worth every penny to watch.

A masterpiece, where silence and physicality mean far more then dialogue and emoting. This is a quiet but deeply dramatic film, limned with spirituality guided by a moral compass. The acting, photography, production design and, of course, the direction are sublime.

If you love and are familiar with Malick's work and style, then this is another excellent film from him. But he's not everyone's favorite and he doesn't have to be. Speaking for myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
