About this movie

Driving back from his mother’s funeral, homicide detective Ko Gun-su (Lee Sun-kyun) runs over a man in a dark rural street. In a moment of desperation, he hides the body in his mother's coffin. A few days later, Gun-su flips through a listing of open cases and finds his accident victim. His colleague is on the accident case and is slowly making progress. Making matters worse, a witness steps forward – a detective named Park Chang-min (Cho Jin-woong). For a reason unclear to Gun-su, Park wants the body. Without no other choice, Gun-su digs up his mother’s grave and retrieves victim's body from his mother's coffin, only to find gunshot wounds on it. As Park’s threats become more vicious, and hit closer to home, Gun-su decides to face Park head-on once and for all.

How far would you go to cover up a crime? A Hard Day cuts a swathe through the mass of middling thrillers, offering scene after scene of gripping suspense and lean storytelling. Lee Sung-kyun, in particular, is remarkable in his lead performance as a corrupt detective. You will despise him at the beginning, no doubt. But this is far from a two-dimensional, cardboard character. Lee breathes life into the role, and his character's downward spiral into ever greater desperation, followed by revelation, is a joy to watch on screen. As the story ratchets up to an explosive conclusion, you will discover what a man with his back to the wall is capable of, and if redemption is possible for those who have sinned.
