About this movie

Marcello Mastroianni plays Guido Anselmi, a director whose new project is collapsing around him, along with his life. One of the greatest films about film ever made, Federico Fellini’s 8½ (Otto e mezzo) turns one man’s artistic crisis into a grand epic of the cinema. An early working title for 8½ was The Beautiful Confusion, and Fellini’s masterpiece is exactly that: a shimmering dream, a circus, and a magic act.

I watched this one blind, just knowing that it was criterion collection and universally loved. I had no idea what I was in for with this amazing Odyssey of sorts and I would recommend to anyone.

As much as I enjoyed NINE and have seen it several times, 8 1/2 stands firm as a superior original epic after all these years.

Where oh where is the version in English (may be synchronized, although extremely hard to determine) wherein the actors and actresses have accents according to their nationality? Personally watched this many times (starting the movie from different times, where I had left off (from VHS times)), and found intriguing, that the narrative seems to be about the unsuccessful attempt of a film director to put together and make the very movie that the viewer is watching.
