1 NIGHT

1 Night, director Minhal Baig’s feature film debut, is a pleasant feature that had me excited to see what film she’ll do next. It’s a film about a set of young and old couples at a hotel who come to realize more about what love is and how it transcends our expectations and even time! It’s film that would put many commercial romances to shame. The writing and acting are superb and make this film work.

It’s a great time coming of age films with recent masterpieces such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Boyhood. I would add 1 Night to that list because although it deals with an older couple in addition to a younger couple, the main theme is facing the challenges of maturing. That is the struggle which defines all the characters, even the older couple (Anna Camp and Justin Chatwin), who have their own growing up to do as well. One of the best parts is how the younger couple is a very realistic representation of millennials, which is usually rare. They were played by Isabelle Fuhrman and Kyle Allen; both of whom have now proven themselves to be future stars to look out for. If you like a good drama with compelling characters, then this is an excellent choice.

Young and upcoming stars Isabelle Fuhrman and Kyle Allen really put on a great performance in this film. 1 Night fleshed out so many things for a true love story to have. Pretty much any relationship problem from early beginnings to ending could be spotted throughout this film. Those aspects were presented in the most beautiful ways and could possibly trigger a ton of emotions from you. Tears, laughter and maybe even some motivations can be pulled from this film. The will to make a relationship work is a powerful thing. The music and connections made with the characters plot was something great to see. 1 Night really made a great impression on me!
