About this movie

Sam Mendes, the Oscar®-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty, brings his singular vision to this World War I epic. At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic's George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones' Dean-Charles Chapman), are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers--Blake's own brother among them.

I do love the unique ways in which film makers have recently been tackling certain movies. The one continuous shot feel of this takes Alfonso Cuaròns long takes and turns it up a notch. On top of that, it's a beautifully filmed and acted movie with a stunning score, especially 'The Night Window'. Visceral and authentic. A real eye opener.

There are moments of brilliance, some amazing visuals but its all style over substance unfortunately. Poor acting from the two young leads, stilted and forced dialogue and the 'one shot' trick was a gimmick that made the movie worse not better although you can see why the critics loved it from a technical perspective. Very moving at the end though, and especially as based loosely on recollections of the war from the director's grandfather.

This film keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. It's was constantly intense, there were random disasters all over the place, the script is fantastic. This could well be one of the greatest movies ever made
