About this movie

From the director of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, the pre-historic epic 10,000 B.C. unveils a new day of adventure, a time when mammoths shake the earth and mystical spirits shape human fates. 10,000 BC is an eye-filling tale of the first hero, young hunter D'Leh who sets out on a bold trek to rescue his kidnapped beloved and fulfill his prophetic destiny. He faces an awesome saber-toothed tiger, crosses uncharted realms, forms an army, and uncovers an advanced but corrupt Lost Civilization. There, he leads a fight for liberation -- and becomes the champion of the time when legend began. MPAA Rating: PG-13 (c) 2008 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

Quite possibly. I went in with an open mind not really knowing what to expect, other than the fact that Emmerich is a completely silly man and I love his work (for whatever bizarre reasons). 10,000 BC is no exception to my joy in all things silly from Emmerich, but the movie is actually quite enjoyable as an action-adventure epic. Is it completely inaccurate historically? Probably. That doesn't take away from the fun ride along the way and some enjoyable character interactions. It takes the movie a bit of time to get going, but once it hit its stride it is a good time.

it has really weird cinametogrophy. everything is weirdly blue tinted and pretty harsh on the eyes. the plot is simple at best. i was very disapointed in the lack of saber tooth tigers. i highly sugest renting and not buying

What saved this film from a large amount of historical inaccuracies is that this film was not made for education. It has prehistoric fantasy aspects and made-up storytelling within the construction that's similar to the inaccuracies and genre of The Land Before Time in terms of the culture and the animals. For a simplistic epic adventure like this, the movie does a solid effort delivering deep substance and likable protagonists. D'leh is not only the hero for the ages, he is honest (does not tell a lie) and he does have a fierce predator in his heart. Roland Emmerich did such a good job with his direction, he knows how to make the action aggressive with earth-shaking excitement, and he knows the right time of what is going to happen next. The acting went from surprisingly decent to mediocre, most of their performances have been sprinkled with a caveman-like manner, however some the acting does needs some improvement. The camera work does have some great epic scale and wide open scope (from a herd of massive woolly mammoths, to many different places with hills and mountains), and let's not forget to mention that the fast camera shots and cuts bring such frantic impact. The sound effects of the film are absolutely incredible, (the footsteps of the mammoths brings deep bass ground shaking sounds, the sounds of aggressive hitting and wiping makes you flinch). The villains are threatening and vicious, from the hard-hitting warlord, to the vicious-looking one-eye. The colossal music score is aggressively epic, but the music can also sound pretty somber and tender and when it gets to the action cues, it's thunderous, powerful, and unsettling. The CGI creatures are very well executed and blends in well in the backgrounds. The narration by Omar Sharif brings wise and nostalgic resonance in his voice. Yeah, The movie does have it's flaws with some of the acting, dialogue, and some animal inaccuracies, but they can be fixed easily. Overall: A simplistic and aggressively fun prehistoric gimmicky ride that is a little heavy on flaws, not too serious, it's just treading into the familiar property within the storytelling of the land before time. Worth a rental.
