[REC]

Over the course of an evening, a television reporter and her camera crew follow a group of firefighters who are summoned to rescue a woman trapped in a building, with nightmarish results. Before they know it, inhabitants, helpers and crew are locked in the building because of an unknown virus.

A surprise Spanish-language hit at home and abroad, [REC] launched a sea of sequels and remakes, evidently causing quite the sensation on its release. It’s not hard to see why: this found-footage shaky-cam horror, full of doom and dread, is one of the best of its kind, and of the 21st century.
