As the O'Brien family reunites in Chesapeake Shores for the first time in years, Abby attempts to learn from her own father’s mistakes to avoid missing out on her young daughters’ lives. As she contemplates leaving Wall Street behind, her high school sweetheart Trace struggles to open up about the reason he left his music career in Nashville. Then, harboring resentment for both of her parents, Jess sets out to prove she doesn’t need their help to open a bed and breakfast of her own. But just as it seems this family can’t find common ground, an unexpected confrontation between Abby and her ex-husband Wes proves the O’Brien’s can come together in a crisis.

As the O'Brien family reunion weekend continues, it seems the family is peacefully cohabitating – but is it just the calm before the inevitable storm? Abby announces she’s making a permanent move to Chesapeake Shores to raise her daughters, she contends with her brother Connor’s harsh judgement as she prepares to go to court to fight for custody. (Connor is currently in law school). As Abby and Trace agree to put any romantic feelings on hold, Trace struggles with upsetting news from his past in Nashville. And, finally, when Mick offers Bree to stay in Chesapeake Shores to overcome her writer’s block, she finds she’ll be making some big life changes of her own.

As Abby settles in and starts her job at her firm’s Baltimore office, she wonders if she can remain just friends with Trace. A beautiful woman, Emma Rose, from Trace’s past in Nashville arrives unannounced to Chesapeake Shores, and she is determined to convince Trace to return to Nashville and his music career. Abby and Trace’s friendship is in question once Abby hears of this news. As Megan tries to repair her relationship with Connor in New York, the O’Brien family will receive upsetting and unexpected news that Kevin has gone missing while serving his last tour in the military.

As Kevin remains missing, Mick, Nell and the rest of the O’Brien family nervously wait for more news; Abby goes to New York to fight for custody of her daughters; Trace continues to hide from his past, but a surprising new idea may have him returning to his music dream after all.

The O’Brien family is stunned when Kevin’s fiancée arrives in Chesapeake Shores; Abby is questioned in connection with a mysterious fraud investigation; Trace learns the warehouse property he has his heart set on is sold to an unexpected new investor.

Abby finds out the truth about the fraud investigation from an unlikely source; Trace confesses to the life-changing reason he left his music career in Nashville; Megan confronts Mick about the mistakes that once pushed her away.

Mick nervously faces a failing business deal; Abby is subpoenaed in the investigation against Wes; Kevin recovers from his fall at home while struggling to define his future with Georgia; Trace learns the warehouse property is still in reach.

Abby and Trace seem finally ready to move forward; Jess, David and Bree attempt to untangle their complicated love triangle; an emergency phone call puts Trace in trouble with the law.

As Abby & the rest of the O’Briens prepare for the town’s annual lantern festival, Trace returns to Nashville to face a mistake from his past. Meanwhile, Mick covertly works on a business deal that is bound to cause family conflict.

Despite guidance from Nell, Mick makes some unpopular business decisions when he plans to sell the nightclub that he and Trace had built together, and puts a reluctant Abby in charge of a development project steeped in unresolved family conflicts.

As Abby sends her girls off to their first day at a new school, conflict arises between Trace and Wes about their roles in the family—complicated further by a Nashville recording label taking interest in Trace’s new demo with a former flame.

Nashville is calling Trace, but leaving town creates a difficult distance between he and Abby. Trace hits the road to record an album with his ex-girlfriend Leigh, but has trouble channeling creative inspiration while he is away from Abby.

While Trace is in Nashville fighting his producer Mark Hall to keep Leigh on an upcoming album at the risk of his own career, Abby meets a handsome widower in the PTA. Mick and Thomas continue to spar over a family land development deal.

As the nightclub opening nears, Trace spends late nights practicing with his band while Mick fights city hall for a live music permit. Abby receives a promotion at work, but it leaves her with less time to spend with the family and Trace.

Overloaded with work, Trace & Abby try to find time to spend with one another and their families. On advice from Nell, Megan tells her children the real reason she left for New York all those years ago. Jess & Bree work on their new relationships.

Abby and Trace talk about their past and the future during a camping getaway. With some encouragement from Nell, Mick and Thomas try to work out their differences in person. A newly unemployed Connor receives a work offer from a surprising source.

After his band’s music video goes viral, Trace receives offers from music executives. After Mick refuses to use incriminating information against his brother Thomas, he must find a new investor for his development deal.

When Trace is offered a worldwide tour deal, he & Abby worry about how it might impact their future together. As Nell ponders a lost love from her past, Abby, Jess & Bree are faced with the possibility of losing their new loves in the present.

After three months on tour, Trace returns to an elated Abby in Chesapeake Shores.

As Trace debates a big gig that would take him away from Abby, Abby questions what to do with an unopened letter that she wrote Trace years ago.

As Abby and Trace’s relationship grows closer, Abby’s girls adjust to Trace as a father figure in their lives.

Abby joins Trace on the road for his tour but when she finds out her family’s privacy has been violated by paparazzi it puts a damper on their fun.

The paparazzi attention from Trace’s growing fame puts a wedge between him and Abby, and the strain both hurts and inspires Trace to write a song.

Abby navigates new family dynamics when she learns Wes is in a serious relationship, and misses Trace’s support when work obligations pull him away.

When Trace discovers that an employee has driven The Bridge into debt, he tries to make things right before Mick reconsiders the terms of their partnership.

Abby takes on Wes’ fiancé as a client, and is surprised by the personal connection that results.

Abby is caught in the middle when Trace and Mick’s legal conflict over The Bridge escalates, but she and Trace hit an even bigger crossroads when Trace is offered an 8-month tour.

When Trace decides to accept a long tour offer, Abby fears that a future together would mean too much time apart and turns to Nell for advice.
