In the opener of this "Manchurian Candidate"-like political thriller, a marine (Damian Lewis) rescued after eight years as a POW in Afghanistan returns home a war hero. But a CIA operative (Claire Danes) suspects he may actually be an enemy agent with a connection to Al Qaeda and part of a plan to commit a terrorist act on U.S. soil.

An undercover agent with connections to a Saudi prince who may be funding terrorist activities provides Carrie with a revealing bit of electronic evidence. Meanwhile, Carrie studies surveillance footage of life in Brody's home, where he appears troubled by traumatic memories and resists Pentagon and media pressure to be hyped as an American war hero.

An exclusive television interview will thrust the Brody family into the national spotlight, unless Dana pulls off her plan to sidetrack the whole bogus process. Elsewhere, Carrie and the team sniff out an Al Qaeda attack on American soil; and Carrie's embedded operative in Prince Farid's camp gets trapped in a chilling situation.

Political powers make big plans to promote Brody as a national hero, but erratic behavior on his part threatens his media image. Elsewhere, a desperate Carrie searches for evidence to link Brody with Abu Nazir, while Saul enjoins her to follow the terrorist financier's money trail.

Carrie believes her suspicions about Brody may be proven correct when he confronts the sole survivor of the insurgents who held him hostage. But the reunion ultimately raises more questions. Meanwhile, the agency zeros in on Aileen and Faisel, the lovers who used funds from the stolen jewelry to purchase the house near the airport.

Having lost a number of essential personnel to Nazir's terrorist plot against the U.S., the CIA issue polygraph tests on everyone who had contact with them. This includes Brody, which Carrie hopes will reveal the truth about him.

Carrie and Brody spend a weekend in the countryside, which ends up complicating their relationship further. Elsewhere, Jessica and Mike catch flak about the truth behind their relationship, while Saul catches Aileen hightailing it to Mexico.

The FBI leans toward using the public's help, but Carrie thinks they should use his family to draw him out. Brody's efforts to sever ties with Abu Nazir triggers flashbacks to his time as a captive. Meanwhile, the mosque shooting results in a public-relations nightmare for Carrie.

Months after the dramatic events that prompted Carrie to undergo Electroconvulsive Therapy, the former CIA case officer has found a modicum of peace in her family’s suburban embrace. But the strides she’s made towards mental health are threatened when an asset from her former life comes in from the cold. Meanwhile, freshman Congressman Nick Brody discovers that Abu Nazir may not be content with his nonviolent approach to affecting change in American foreign policy. And Dana lets a vital secret slip.

Against the advice of her family, Carrie becomes involved in an operation that may rid the world of Abu Nazir once and for all. Brody’s handler presses the Congressman into service, as his relationship with Jessica takes a hit. And Captain Mike Faber questions the nature of the events surrounding the shooting of Elizabeth Gaines.

Following a secret debrief from Saul, a stunned Estes authorizes a covert operation to pursue intel recovered in Beirut--but not without putting his own trusted operative in charge. Brody, still reeling from his misadventures with the bombmaker, gets another shock when he runs into Carrie at Langley. A casual invitation to bury the hatchet turns into an encounter neither of them could have foreseen. And Dana discovers she has something in common with Finn Walden, the Vice President’s son.

Brody finds himself prisoner again, but this time it’s on American soil. Meanwhile, Carrie is forced to play second fiddle after her rash judgment call at the hotel, as Estes is busy sweeping the tracks clean to keep Jessica off their trail. And Dana’s relationship with Finn is taken to the next level from fun to deadly serious.

Dana visits the hospital and is shocked by what she sees there. Faber gets tangled up with the CIA when he asks one too many questions about his old friend Tom Walker. Brody agrees to work with Carrie and Quinn to stop an attack on America, but his loyalty to the United States is questioned when Gettysburg once again becomes a battleground.

Saul visits Aileen in solitary confinement, hoping she’ll provide key intelligence on this latest attack. Meanwhile, an anguished Dana pressures Finn to come clean about their hidden crime. But her quest to tell the truth will collide with her father’s secret mission in ways neither could have foreseen.

In an effort to clarify his priorities, Brody makes a necessary phone call before things spiral further out of control. Saul teams up with Virgil and Max to dig up some information on one of their own. And while the Brody family enjoys an all-expense paid vacation of sorts, Carrie finds herself preparing for the most important breakfast meeting of her career.

Brody and Vice President Walden find themselves at odds over the future of their political relationship while Dana and Finn come terms with their own differences. But it’s Carrie, seemingly at the top of her game, who turns out to be further in the dark than anyone else.
