The life of and work of one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the 20th century, painter Pablo Picasso.

WWII rages, but Picasso refuses to leave Paris, straining his relationship with photographer Dora Maar. Meanwhile, Young Pablo finds quick success on his first trip to Paris by copying the masters, but struggles to make something truly original.

Younger Pablo begins his Blue Period after the suicide of his best friend, and meets his first great love, Fernande Olivier. Meanwhile, older Picasso begins an affair with his last great love, the young artist Francoise Gilot.

As older Picasso juggles two love affairs, Young Pablo strives to create a masterpiece that will signal his arrival as a great artist.

Picasso tries to convince Françoise to move in with him, while Young Pablo is challenged by the radical genius of Matisse.

Picasso takes Françoise Gilot on vacation. Young Pablo starts cubism with Georges Braque, but is accused of stealing the Mona Lisa.
