Victoria Grant is a talented singer, trying unsuccessfully to find her break into the big time in 1930s Paris. Down and out, she is rescued by Toddy, a gay impresario who is struck by inspiration when, dressed up in his ex-lover's clothing, she does a remarkable impression of a man. Toddy turns Victoria into Count Victor Grezhinski, a female impersonator, and she is a hit. She also catches the eye of a Chicago mobster.
