A young teacher from British Guiana is assigned to a school in London's East End where he faces a class of rowdy, undisciplined students. No stranger to hostility, he meets the challenge by treating them as young adults preparing to enter the world, but when he's offered an engineering job, his dream position, he must decide whether or not to stay in the teaching profession.
