With his marriage to Anne of Cleves annulled, King Henry VIII weds Katherine Howard, a teenager whose roguish cousin, the Earl of Surrey, returns to England to assert his claim to a prominent place in the royal court.

As Henry invites Anne of Cleves back into the royal court, and both Surrey and Thomas Seymour pursue an affair with Anne Stanhope, Queen Katherine's wandering eye settles on her husband's groom, Culpepper.

Henry forgives the citizens of the North who rebelled against him. Meanwhile, rumours about an affair between Henry's new wife and Thomas Culpepper spread.

After the king's pardon, the North surprises Henry with a warm welcome. Back at Henry's court, Queen Katherine is being blackmailed by a former lover.

Henry discovers Katherine's affair and punishes her with banishment.

As King Henry looks to strengthen his ties with Scotland and creates an alliance with the Holy Roman Empire against France, he sets his sights on his next wife, Catherine Parr.
