Friday Night Dinner, Series 1 - 4

Mum and Dad are having a clear-out, and Dad's been ordered to chuck away all his tatty, old magazines. Dad has forgotten that he asked a man off eBay to come and pick up their old sofabed, and when the man turns up, Mum is livid that her meal is ruined. But this is nothing compared to the problem of getting the sofabed down the stairs.

When Adam and Jonny come home to find Dad secretly peering into his underpants with a magnifying glass, they're desperate to find out what he's looking at. Meanwhile, Adam's first ever jingle is going to be on the radio. Mum is so proud. Unfortunately, none of the radios work in the house.

The boys bring Grandma home for dinner but Grandma gets her hair stuck in the window of Jonny's car. When they eventually arrive, Mum shows the family the new curtains. An argument follows about whether the new curtains are actually yellow rather than cream. Meanwhile, Dad drops Mum's beef casserole all over the kitchen floor.

When Mum finds out that Dad didn't throw away his old boxes of science magazines in their clear-out, she goes mad. So Dad builds a bonfire and promises he'll burn them all. But secretly Dad is only pretending to burn them in the bonfire, instead squirrelling the boxes off to his shed in the garden.

It's Adam's birthday. As he arrives home, a silver Mercedes almost runs him over. Inside, is Sheila Bloom who is famously obsessed with her Mercedes, and after some catty remarks about Adam's car, she speeds off. This leads Dad to make a surprising confession before he tries to cook dinner for the first time ever.

Adam comes home to find the house looking immaculate, with classical music playing in the living room, Mum's posh bowls on the dinner table, Dad in a smart suit, and most mysteriously - five sets of knives and forks laid out. Something major is up. What is Mum up to?

When Jonny finds Adam's old diary, he learns a terrible secret: when Adam was 11, he secretly dumped Jonny's beloved 'Pandy' panda bear toy in the outside bin, never to be seen again. This unleashes a war in the house, with Jonny threatening to destroy Adam's equally beloved old rabbit toy, 'Buggy'. Fights rage in every room, with Mum and Dad unable to control their two twenty-something sons, who have become 13 again. Desperate to hide his precious comfort toy from his angry brother, Adam gives Buggy to just about the worst person possible, neighbour Jim.

The boys are excited, because Grandma is coming for dinner, and tonight she's bringing her new boyfriend. 82 year-old Lou Morris is a horrible, vain man, who sports a trilby, a Hitler-ish moustache, and is obsessed with cleanliness. None of the family can see what lovely grandma sees in him. Dad can't stand the man and hides in his shed - happy to rifling through his box of fossils. But none of the family are quite prepared for what happens when Mr Morris suddenly loses his temper.

To get out of cleaning the loft with Dad and Adam, Jonny claims to have dislocated his shoulder. But when Adam discovers he's lying, he threatens to tell Mum immediately. Meanwhile Mum and Dad are not on speaking terms. There's been a terrible argument. Dad tells the boys that the reason - much to their horror - is 'sexual'. Mum's best friend - Aunty Val, comes round for dinner to lend Mum moral support, as Mum's argument with Dad escalates. What is Mum and Dad's terrible secret? And will Mum and Dad find out all about Jonny and Adam's secrets too?

Dad is very excited. He's just bought a new fax machine. Jonny, who's an estate agent, has been given a company car - the uncoolest car possible. Mum soon learns that Jonny bagged the car because he'd been sleeping with his boss, the much older Liz. Meanwhile Mum has put Dad on a diet - 'no chocolate, no cheese, no cakes' for two weeks, but Dad has made the boys smuggle in food for him, which he keeps hidden in the downstairs loo. Later a drunk Jim pops round with his dog Wilson. Then returning from a 'family spin' in Jonny's car, the family find something awful has happened to their house.

Jonny is in a real pickle: he wants to split up with his 43-year-old girlfriend/boss, Liz but is too scared to do so. Adam, meanwhile, is happy to keep teasing him about her age. Grandma offers Jonny some advice - 'Take her out dancing' - before showing him how to dance in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Dad has been drying fish under the stairs, then Grandma gets locked in the boot of Adam's car. How will they get her out? And as if that isn't bad enough, Jonny's girlfriend, Liz turns up at the house.

The boys come home to find the house in a real state. The builders have been in, and everywhere they look, there's mess. On top of this, there's a mouse in the house, and Mum is hiding in the shed. Dad - who's clueless in the kitchen - is left in charge of dinner. But when Jim pops round to see if he can help around the house, something quite terrible happens to him, and Mum is forced - out of guilt - to ask Jim over for dinner. This is Jim's happiest moment ever - finally, his first ever Friday night dinner with the Goodmans. Dad and the boys are livid with Mum for asking him round.

It's Christmas day. Mum has made a fantastic Christmas dinner. The boys are delighted that Grandma, is coming round, but horrified that Dad's mother - 'Horrible Grandma' - is coming too. Horrible Grandma turns up with her equally horrible dog, Boudacea, which has to wear an oxygen mask. Horrible Grandma hates Mum's 'horrible dry turkey', and Mum is distraught when Horrible Grandma brings her own turkey with her to eat. After dinner, tensions mount, as the two grandmas have an argument that develops into a proper grandma fight. And then Jim turns up, dressed as Father Christmas...

Adam finally brings a girl home for dinner, but the evening is ruined when the family suddenly have to look after 8 year-old Katie, who has a massive girlie crush on Adam.

Dad's been secretly hiding a dead fox in the outside freezer, as he wants to get it stuffed. But when mum needs to use the freezer, dad enlists the boys in a desperate attempt to hide the dead animal from her.

The family are distraught when Grandma gets engaged to Mr Morris, her horrible 85 year-old boyfriend. Meanwhile, Jim is collecting money for charity, whilst dressed in full dog costume, complete with doggy testicles.

Mum and dad's anniversary is ruined when Dad paints a painting of mum that looks like Margaret Thatcher, Jonny gets a tattoo of a skull, and Jim sleep-walks around their house, causing havoc.

Dad's bought a piano, and the world's most sarcastic piano tuner comes round to tune it. Meanwhile, the family spot Aunty Val having an affair. What should they do?

It's grandma's wedding day, and she's getting married to the horrible Mr Morris. The family are distraught, but will Grandma really say 'I do'?

Dad's old friend from university, Tony, has been invited round. Dad used to live with Tony along with another lad also called Tony - who used to tell terrible jokes and talk with his eyes closed the whole time. Dad hated this Tony. But when a bad-joke-telling, shutty-eyed man appears at the front door, Dad almost has a heart attack: he's inadvertently invited the wrong Tony over.

Dad is in an excited mood. Today is his annual 'oiling of the hinges' in which he oils all the hinges in the house. But dad's mood soon changes when he spills black oil all over mum's precious carpet. Now dad has to find someone to clean the carpet without mum seeing. His plan: to get the cleaner into the house through the garage, while the family all go out to a restaurant. Unfortunately, the carpet cleaner, an elderly, bad-tempered man who is charging double for the job - arrives just as the family are leaving the house to go to the restaurant.

Adam's arrives home to a 'Congratulations' banner hanging in the hallway, and a super excited mum and dad. They're celebrating Adam's first award - for writing the music to a commercial. But Adam's celebration soon turns sour when Jonny turns up with an American girl he met in Las Vegas. Lisa is a lovely, sparky girl, but when mum learns that Jonny and Lisa got secretly married in Vegas, mum goes mad. An awkward evening ensues with mum trying her best to be as polite as possible to Jonny's new wife. But it soon becomes clear that Jonny and Lisa know absolutely nothing about each other.

Adam's been staying at mum and dad's for a week while he recovers from a bout of tonsillitis. However, with mum fussing over him the whole time, he's clearly regressed to a little boy again. He's even started calling mum, 'mummy'. When Jonny enters, Adam's sitting on the sofa in his pyjamas whilst mum cuts his toenails. During a bad-tempered dinner, mum gives Adam triple portions, and even feeds him pieces of chicken. An irate Dad and Jonny are left with hardly anything to eat.

Today is Uncle Saul's funeral. Dressed in black, the boys come home to be welcomed by Dad's mother, Grandma Goodman, aka Horrible Grandma. The boys hate Horrible Grandma. In fact the whole family hate Horrible Grandma. Mum is in a particularly bad mood with Grandma, as mum's glass cabinet is lying on the floor, all smashed to pieces. Mum suspects Grandma pushed it over. While Dad has been instructed to write a speech but he's been hiding out in the shed.

The boys arrive home to find a 'For Sale' sign in front of the house. They enter to find mum showing a couple round the house. Mum promises them they are not selling, they're 'just seeing'. The boys aren't convinced.
