The U-612 prepares for its maiden voyage from the Nazi-occupied France in 1942. Meanwhile, the translator Simone Strasser arrives in the port city.

Kaleun Hoffmann lets the crew do exercises, but the men would rather go to war. Plus, Simone tries to understand the events of last night.

As U-612 completes the initial stage of their mission, the crew struggle to come to terms with Willy's tragic death. Hoffmann and Tennstedt continue to argue about the welfare of their unexpected passenger.

After the explosion at La Rochelle, the mayor is forced to make some difficult decisions. Meanwhile, Simone feels pressure from two sides.

A new guest surprises the crew as they welcome the departure of Greenwood; the crew divides with a second captain on board; a battle of loyalty ensues due to an undermined captain, an unhappy Tennstedt and a power-hungry crew.

Trapped beneath a destroyer, the outlook appears bleak for the U-612 crew. The boat faces more division as the crew try to decide whether to engage.
