This is the farm where Thomas was born. This is his family. His deceased brother, who won’t be coming back, his mother, who is now terminally ill, and his father, who has always stood aloof. Thomas returns to everything he ran away from twelve years ago. The difference today is that there is Alex, his six-year-old nephew, and Mona, the boy’s radiant mother there too. Winner of Best Screenplay at The Venice Film Festival, Back Home (aka Revenir) is a harsh and poetic film, which speaks of societal and relational issues that are both complex and commonplace.
