A self-commenting film - electronic mass - how to remember being thirsty? "My constant comings and goings are not a search for contrasts; they are a journey to the two extreme poles of survival," Marker says in the commentary to his film meditation which interweaves travel journals, thoughts expressed in letters, poems, anecdotes, topical contemplations over images and the film. Marker, a solitary globetrotter, is guiding the audience throughout the world, neglecting the borders of space and time and mixing past and the future as well as the world of electronic signs with the famine in a desert. Images are accompanied by a voiceover commentary, which either anticipates the images or follows different associations but you never know who is talking. A film as a perpetual secret.
