Synopsis

When it comes to students of shamanism, Shin Nam (Ryu Kyung Soo) isn’t exactly standing at the top of his class. A trainee with no real skill or talent, Shin Nam uses a combination of bluffs and luck to secure his next client. When it comes to his attention that an affluent woman is looking for a shaman to help her connect to her deceased father, Shin Nam volunteers to help her out. Knowing he’ll need more than luck if he’s going to convince his new client of his abilities, Shin Nam turns to his teacher for help. After receiving the Daemuga song from his teacher, Shin Nam begins the ceremony but it all comes to naught when he suddenly disappears. Determined to find out what happened, Chung Dam (Yang Hyun Min), a legitimate shaman and colleague of Shin Nam’s, begins an investigation. Possessed by a child god, Chung Dam uses his true powers to follow a trail of clues; a trail which leads him directly into the path of Ma Sung Jun (Park Sung Woong), an ex-convict and shaman far past his prime, and Son Ik Soo (Jung Kyung Ho), a powerful gangster with an invested interest in a local redevelopment project. With powerful men and even more powerful shamans fighting to seize control of the redevelopment project, uncovering the truth isn’t easy. Will Chung Dam ever learn the truth or will he be caught up in the raging battle between shamans and thugs? Full of colorful characters and witty satire, “DAEMUGA: The Great Shaman Song” is a 2022 South Korean film directed by Lee Han Jong.
