Society/Short Film, United States 2009

Amina, a frightened 17-year-old young woman, finds herself in the midst of an unexpected pregnancy, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. Desperately seeking solace and guidance, she instinctively turns to the wisdom of older women, hoping their experiences can provide her with comfort and valuable advice. However, instead of finding the solace she craves, their stories have an unexpected and contrasting effect on her emotions. A film by Signe Baumane, a Latvian animator, illustrator and writer, currently living and working in New York City. Baumane is known for utilising personal narration and a flat 2D hand-drawn cel-shaded style of animation. In her feature films, Rocks in My Pockets and My Love Affair With Marriage, she combines papier-mâché and stop-motion with traditional animation.
