New kid Keiichi Maebara arrives in Hinamizawa village just in time for the big festival, but something about the isolated town seems off and his feelings of dread continue to grow.

Keiichi learns of a murder that occurred during construction of the dam; PE class disturbs Keiichi; the town celebrate the Watanagashi Festival.

The Watanagashi Festival ends with Rika's ritual performance and the villagers giving thanks to guardian diety Oyashiro-sama; Keiichi meets a detective named Ooishi.

Keiichi grows more suspicious of Rena, but Rika doesn't think he has reason to fear her and says Keiichi should question himself instead.

Rena and Mion summon Keiichi to the toy store for a tournament, and they are split into separate groups; Keiichi has trouble with his game.

Shion and the villagers rescue Keiichi from trouble; Shion tells Keiichi about the history of Hinamizawa and the Dam Project.
