EPISODE 6
Episode 6
Lewis is shocked when his middle daughter, sixteen-year-old Phoebe lands on his doorstep pregnant, days before his and Gemma’s wedding. She hasn’t been on student exchange in Frankfurt learning German...but forty k’s down the highway in Frankston getting pregnant. Lewis wants answers. He wants to know who knocked up his daughter and what they’re going to do about it? Phoebe won’t spill so Lewis resorts to some detective work, discovering a bill in her bag with an address and a man’s name. Instead of celebrating his buck’s night at the pub, Lewis heads over to the man’s house only to discover that the strapping 21 year old bill holder isn’t Phoebe’s baby’s daddy...it’s his pimply 16-year-old brother, Jay. Lewis learns some confronting truths about Phoebe and her warped, naïve view on love. She is still very much a child, despite being months away from having her own. There’s never been a time in her life when she’s needed her father more. With some guidance from Gemma, Lewis realises this is his second chance to rebuild a relationship with his daughter and be there for her. For Gemma, this is also an opportunity to appease her own guilt for playing a part in the demise of Phoebe’s parents’ marriage. After it becomes clear Phoebe’s relationship with her mother is far from civil, Lewis and Gemma ask Phoebe to stay with them. She refuses. In light of Phoebe’s re-appearance, Gemma is reluctant to go ahead with the wedding and cancels the reception venue. Abi won’t hear a word of it – Gemma and Lewis have put off tying the knot long enough and insist the wedding take place at her and Mark’s place. With his work nemesis Gabe away at the Hong Kong office, Mark is convinced this is his time to shine and impress his boss, Rachel. When she asks him to find a market for a product Gabe failed to sell, Mark jumps at the chance... only to realise the product is unsellable. When he reports back to Rachel, admitting defeat she reveals she already knows it’s a dud and asks Mark to deliver the news to the brains behind the world’s crappest product: her son. The episode comes to a head with all our people gathering for the low-key wedding of Lewis and Gemma. As the guests begin to dance the afternoon away, Gemma pulls Phoebe aside and reiterates their invitation for her to stay, pointing out Phoebe calling Lewis grandad is going to make Gemma feel really old. Phoebe accepts...for now. A reluctant truce. But still, a major step forward.
