Black Christmas

Black Christmas

Directed by Bob Clark

During a festive Yuletide party, a group of sorority sisters receive a creepy call from someone who claims he’s going to kill them all. The girls soon realize the threats were serious, when one by one, they each fall prey to the mysterious maniac. After directing two relatively ignored horror flicks which later became cult classics (CHILDREN SHOULDN’T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS & DEATHDREAM), a Christmas miracle made Bob Clark’s 1974 classic a hit. A huge influence on John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN, BLACK CHRISTMAS is frequently credited with helping spawn the slasher subgenre.

This horror classic about a killer stalking sorority girls on Xmas helped spawn the slasher genre.

Cast: Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder

Wish I'd have watched this one sooner. What a touchstone. Great cast, killer cinematography. Haunting. Didn't disappoint.

On my top 5 list of best horror movies of all time! Love it!! It’s so chilling & eerie even after watching it tons of times. A classic. Must watch.

I honestly don't get the love fest going on here. Sure the film likely deserves credit for being an early slasher that helped towards the forming of the genre, but it is slow and campy (but not in a fun way like The Evil Dead series). Additionally, the film includes several actors and actresses that would go on to be more well known (not necessarily A list celebrities but recognizable like Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin and the guy who plays the father of Nancy in the Nightmare franchise). There are several major problems with the film. Characters are inconsistently written. One minute they are determined to leave and in a hurry and the next they are frantically looking for a cat around the house. There are other examples, but I don't want to include any spoilers. Also the reactions to the phone calls were just weird, I don't see real people behaving this way. Overall, I feel as though people love this movie because they are told that it is a slasher classic and not because it is really all that good. Again I give credit as a pioneering film in the genre, but it feels dated and inconsistent.

The first and ultimate thrill ride down the Slash with Panache Ride. This movie was the first of the calls are coming from inside the house, all the classic protagonists. And let’s not forget that ‘eye’ scene. Scream Queens Margot Kidder & Olivia Hussey, Andrea Martin & Lynne Griffin with Horror Royalty John Saxon & Keith Dullea.
