It took me awhile to find time to watch properly as only 1% is in English, the main language spoken is Xhosa. I enjoyed this film! Acted really well. The storyline and setting is something different than I am usually drawn to. It is spooky and unsettling in it's own way - it doesn't have the dramatics, jump scares, gore that plenty of other films bring, and that is why I enjoyed watching something different this time.

WARNING: LIGHT SPOIL OF MOVIE CONCEPT I really appreciated the idea and the overall theme of intergenerational trauma, however, it was extremely hard to follow and the plot had a very weak build up with a confusing ending. Again, I love the concept of it all and I am sure with personal research you will find the origins of a white family using egyptian spells to infringe on black land and their souls making sense somewhere in history, but this movie did a very poor job conveying and illustrating it.

This movie is cinematically captivating. Couldn’t stop watching to see what the uneasiness was all about. I definitely felt like it was missing something (could be that I’d need more understanding of South African culture) but I’d definitely watch this again, so that’s something. There isn’t much English spoken until an hour in, despite the language of the movie being listed as English. The first hour is in a South African language called Xhosa. Most of the movie is in this language. It’s quite an interesting language though and was not a deterrent for me.

Eerie, original film which has a narrative of the past combatting the present with a supernatural element.
