British director Daniel Barber (Harry Brown) brings us this gripping drama set in the dying days of the American Civil War. When Augusta (Brit Marling, Another Earth) is forced to leave her farm in search of medicine for her younger sister, Louise (Haliee Steinfeld, True Grit), she encounters two lecherous soldiers from the Union Army. After they discover their home, the two sisters and their African American slave Mad (Muno Otaru) must defend all that they hold dear.
