This is gorgeous. This was also an aggressively uncomfortable watch for me. There's no real onscreen gore, but the emotional violence is devastating. Two girls develop a complex friendship built around an obsession with the supernatural. Verónica's magnetic charm and domineering personality remind me of too many difficult girlhood friendships of my own, especially in how she subtly bullies Flavia. Adding to the stressful construction of this movie, Flavia also comes from a wealthier, more secure family. Verónica just has her wits and imagination to get her way, but Flavia can run to her parents at any time and eject the other girl from her life. Who, exactly, is more powerful here? The answer is that it doesn't matter. They're both the "wrong" mix of young, insecure, and thoughtless. Verónica is not a fully developed person even if she has some troubling tendencies. Flavia isn't adult enough to stand up to her friend. Life is random and it doesn't have the intellect to care you're a little girl.

My best first watch of the year, and I'm a little mad at myself for not already knowing about it. I will watch this again and again.

I had started watching this before but it says English and it's not but I don't mind subtitles I just have to be in the mood to read. I thought this was incredibly slow and tedious but I absolutely love the ending it made it worth watching at least once . I would not recommend this movie to men at all it's not horror, it in my opinion is a chick flick with some creepy moments. Didn't love it.

Reminds me of something along the lines of "The Lord Of The Flies" and or an even more terrifying "The Sailor Who fell With Grace From The Sea"... The only difference is you don't really see this coming quite as obviously as it builds much slower. Undecided if I Like the sudden insertion of a surreal image for one shot... or if it is brilliance!
