About this movie

Guitarist Jerry Garcia was the leader of one of the most popular rock bands of all time, the Grateful Dead. Of the busy musician's numerous side projects, none lasted longer or was more creatively fruitful than his duo with mandolin player David Grisman, with whom he collaborated from the time they met in the mid-1960s until Garcia's death in 1995. Their "musical friendship" is the subject of this compelling and touching documentary by Gillian Grisman, David Grisman's daughter, who uses unreleased live recordings, concert footage, interviews and home movies to explore and remember two great musicians and their love for acoustic "roots" music. The result reveals a personal side of Garcia unfamiliar to many of his fans, and offers a behind-the-scenes look that will be of interest to music lovers everywhere. © 2001 Acoustic Disc and 11th Hour Productions & Entertainment, Inc.
