About this movie

Doris Day and Gordon MacRae star in an old fashioned musical salute to the small town American family. Inspired by the stories of Booth Tarkington ("The Magnificent Ambersons," "Alice Adams") and set at the end of WWI, it captures the travails of a returning soldier and his fiancee as family complications delay their inevitable wedding. Prequel to "On Moonlight Bay."

I hadn't seen this movie in years. But when I found out that it was available for rent, I got right into it. Doris Day is just gorgeous in this, as is Gordon MacRae. It's a great light romantic comedy with really heartfelt sentimentalities from a period long past. Sure, it really didn't reflect any reality of the times and the story-line was sugar-coated, but this movie is one of those that makes for a perfect lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon viewing. Feel-good at one of its' best!

This is just a wonderful old musical . We have made it our Thanksgiving weekend movie night tradition.. we also love singing the song to our little children " Won't You Be My Baby Bumblebee."
