About this movie

This is a spectacular account of the events leading up to and through the Allied Forces' invasion of Normandy, France on D-Day (June 6), 1944 to fight the occupying Germans.  The film is particularly interesting because it looks at D-Day through the eyes of all of the participants, including the Germans, who are overwhelmed by the forces brought against them.  It is in fact a German officer who gives the story its title -- when he views the approaching Allied armada, he says, "This will be the longest day."

The longest day is a classic depiction of war from the planning stage to the execution. Far to often modern films become complacent with a focus on action and could stand to learn from films like The Longest Day and A Bridge To Far as they have the ability to educate as well as entertain. The first time I watched this film was at my nan's house when I was around 10 years old and it was one of the first examples of a film that made me want to learn about the second world war. Classic film!

Anyone who says bit slow or gives it anything other than a 5 star should go to France, look at the beaches those men stormed and hang their heads.
