HBO Films has done an excellent job of portraying an important time in the lives of both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt with "Warm Springs." The period of Roosevelt's life after he had contracted polio while he struggled to regain political prominence has often been overlooked throughout history, as it is overshadowed by later monumental events such as the Great Depression and World War II. But these "forgotten years" played a pivotal role in the development of the future president. With a fantastic cast including Cynthia Nixon as Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Alexander (famous for playing Eleanor in earlier films) as Sara Delano Roosevelt, and staring Kenneth Branagh as FDR in a performance so convincing that one can truly picture him as the late president. He is an apt successor to the great Edward Herrmann who so often provided brilliant portrayals of Roosevelt. This is a well-written, emotionally charged drama which is not only significant from the perspective of history, but also very entertaining and enlightening to the viewer.
